Walnut Frame Studio
The Frame
as Object
Solid walnut. Laser-cut geometry.
Handcrafted in small editions.
Where geometry meets grain —
structure and soul as one.
The Process
From timber
to object
Each piece begins as a plank of American black walnut, hand-selected for grain character and structural integrity. Frame and background are cut, joined, and finished by a single maker. The veneer background is matched to the frame's own grain direction — achieving the seamless wooden-box feel that defines the work.
Geometric forms are laser-cut from black composite, their surfaces etched with the identical wood grain pattern. Laid into the box, each shape casts a shadow that deepens through the day as light moves.
